Well, the rubber bands quieted the buzz but didn't eliminate it, so I did the standard fix and that seems to have done the trick.
FYI, my dealer's mechanic didn't know about the problem and said that Suzuki had not issued a tech note on it. He also called the Internet the Great Mis-information Highway. That's what he thinks!
